| MAIN ADVANTAGES OF THE PERUVIAN PASO BREED OVER OTHER SADDLE BREEDS (NATIVE HORSY BREED OF PERU): | |||||||
| 1.- Of its virtues, the most outstantding is the smoothness which the rider enjoys, known as "piso" (gait). This is a unique, inherited, completely natural four beat lateral gait, movement by which the horses' center of gravity is translated forward and not upwards as in trotting horses. | |||||||

| Known
as the "paso llano" the gait is a type of broken pace. Peruvian
breeders give great emphasis to "termino" which is akin to swimmer's
arm motions in which the forelegs roll forward and towards the outside (in
elevated motion) before making ground contact, allowing for the rear legs
to advance sooner and farther (in a motion that is as close to the ground
as possible). The gait can be as slow as a walk or as fast as an extended
trot or slow canter and is completely natural (not induced or aided in any
way by artificial training and devices). Because of its incredibly smooth ride, the Peruvian Paso Horse is know as the "Rolls Royce" ride |
